FOOT IN MOUTH AWARD GOES TO... DONALD RUMSFELD
"Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld was awarded the "Foot in Mouth" prize for the most baffling comment by a public figure on December 2, 2003. The annual prize awarded by Britain's Plain English Campaign.
Rumsfeld was awarded the prize based on the following comments from a February 2002 news briefing: "Reports that say something hasn't happened are always interesting to me, because as we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns -- the ones we don't know we don't know."
