WASHINGTON, D.C. (AP) -- Neighbors of Vice President Dick Cheney are being shaken and rattled at least once a day by mysterious blasts on the grounds of the U.S. Naval Observatory where Cheney lives.
The Navy says the explosions are part of a construction project that has been going on for several months now, but won't say more because the project is classified.
The Washington Post, which reported the issue Sunday, said David Gillard, the observatory's superintendent, had sent the local neighborhood commission a letter noting that "due to its sensitive nature in support of national security and homeland defense, project specific information is classified and cannot be released."
Jennifer Millerwise, a Cheney spokeswoman, referred questions about the project to the Navy.
The Post said neighbors have several theories about what the project might involve.
One is that the government is building a security bunker for Cheney. Another is that it is digging tunnels to spy on nearby embassies. Still another is that a helicopter hangar is being built.
THE SOPRANOS – THE FINAL EPISODE OF SEASON 4
Being an avid SOPRANOS fan, I was waiting with bated breath for this final episode. It seemed to me that the entire 12 episodes preceding it were subdued ‘on purpose’ and that many of the loose ends would be resolved, or at least brought to a tantalizing turning point that would jump start the next and final season.
This isn’t what happened in my opinion. In fact, it was a relief that Tony’s and Carmella’s deteriorating marriage was finally moving – in some direction. Her nagging, frankly, up to this point, had me wondering if the defining scene of the season would be Tony shutting her up permanently one way or another. The fact that she used the excuse of ‘The Russian’s’ phone call to get the gumption to tell Tony the marriage was over, seemed a bit opportunistic. In any event, they both vented their rage at the other and everyone knew it was coming, eventually. For all the emotion that the episode’s scenes produced, there really wasn’t anything new brought to the table. In fact, it was pretty much a yawn fest, even with the extra 15 minutes of air time. (Whoopie.)
Events with Johnny Sack could cause some concern next season, but one wonders, if Johnny Sack is capable of ‘whacking’ Tony with his own crew, why wouldn’t he use the same crew to do in his boss, Carmine? Obviously, Sack was thinking that if Tony’s group killed Carmine, any heat generated by Carmine’s assassination would fall on Tony and destroy the family. But, using this same logic, How could Sack kill Tony and not think he’d be held responsible for it by Carmine, making life even more like hell for him? The only answer would be a simultaneous killing. Getting rid of Carmine AND Tony at the same time would be the only way I can see for Johnny Sack to accomplish his goals.
So, let’s see, we’ve got Tony and Carmella’s marriage in shambles, Tony is out of counseling, Adrian is still being hounded by the FBI, Christopher is out of drug rehab, Paulie Walnuts found out he was being played by Johnny Sack and is now trying to get back into Tony’s good graces, Furrio is back in Italy after fighting the urge to kill Tony, and finally, there’s been almost no mention of the ‘still missing’ Russian that Paulie and Christopher failed to whack in Season 3. Whew! Quite a few loose ends to tie up in the final season. What do you think?

HBO Repeats Iraqi Baby-Killing PR Scam and Sadaam’s Apology to Kuwait. A Connection?
Tonight HBO will air the movie ‘Live from Baghdad and with it the actors playing journalists will repeat the false story of Iraqi soldiers killing babies by ‘ripping them from incubators’. It was said this tactic was originally used in the ’92 Gulf War to sell the war to the American People. Get the Spin here.
I found it interesting, if not ironic, that today we get a report from Iraq that Sadaam Hussein apologized to the Kuwaiti people today.
Yes, I know, there probably isn’t a shred of connection but it’s fun to see juxtaposing items like this. But then, I have a sick sense of humor.
O.K., o.k., I’ve been one of the people salivating in anticipation at seeing the HBO movie tonight. Mainly because when the Gulf War erupted in the early ‘90’s I was without a TV and had to hear the reports about news completely on the radio. (Don’t ask – it’s a LONG story…) Anyway, I understand it is a depiction of events that took place 10 years ago but, hey, it’s as close to what happened as we are likely to get. Besides, I’d like to make up my own mind after seeing it.
Yeah, I didn’t agree with Hussein when he invaded Kuwait and I’m glad he is out. But, hasn’t anyone noticed that this guy hasn’t moved out of his bullpen in 10 years? What’s the REAL reason we are chomping on the bit to get over there and annihilate him? Fictional weapons of Mass Destruction or an opportunity to cash in on Oil in the region? Take your pick. Considering our current President comes from an oil company family background and many of his cronies in the administration, like Cheney, come from energy company backgrounds, I find it interesting that these two people are the ones who can’t wait to get over to the Gulf Region and flex some muscle.
Do we really want to engage this region in a war over an assumption? Or are we really just getting revenge over what happened September 11, 2001? Is Sadaam a (I can’t believe I’m going to type this…) a convenient scapegoat for al Qaeda terrorism? It is easier for America to conceive of attacking an entire country if the country has been named as ‘part of the Axis of Evil’ than it is to try to attack a pervading terrorist threat that can’t be quantified, much less personalized.
The last irony is, we couldn’t take down Hussein 10 years ago and we haven’t taken down bin Laden today. What makes us think we’ll be any more successful getting rid of either of them in the near future? It’s time to think outside of the box.

Drug Contradictions, Anyone?
So, how come the War on Drugs doesn’t include the pharmaceuticals that are pushed down our throats on a daily basis? Viagra, for instance – or Claratin are proof positive that we live in a world of paradox.
Turn on the television at any time and we are besieged by ads for legal prescription drugs that are marketed with the same flair that cars and perfume are. Yes, I know the side affect warnings on the back side of these commercials are supposed to balance things out, but in truth, all it tells the public is ‘This drug is still SO GOOD that you will bear with the possibilities of these side affects just to have the benefits of this drug. In essence: The drug is worth the risk of side affects.
We are told we should stay away from ‘club drugs’ such as Ecstasy and yet Valium is legal and kills thousands in the country each year. And when was the last time you heard of anyone getting any side affect from smoking a joint? Things that make you go ‘Hmmm.’
Judith Lewis’ review of the book ‘Busted’ in the L.A. Weekly reminded me that we’ve all been scammed by this government in so many subtle ways. Along the same lines, yesterday, we watched a movie on VH1, called ‘The 60’s’ which showed the seething unrest in this country in that decade and how it affected individuals. The ‘War on Drugs’ was born out of this time but what most people don’t want to recognize is drugs were brought into this country by our government and dropped into the inner city right into its citizen’s laps. Creating a dependence that quickly gets out of control and demands satisfaction. The U.S. has been our Pusher and our Priest in the War on Drugs for decades. Government reports, previously classified showed that this was, in fact, a way for the Anti-War Protests, staged by the youth to be controlled.
To add insult to injury, not only did the Government create and grow the drug problem, it now has entrenched an entire Department in Washington of careerists to man the ‘trenches’. These people know that the War on Drugs, will never be won because there is no money in the win. Instead, vested interests in this country have made sure that our tax money, about 40 billion annually, is spent on advertising against illegal drugs, while financially subsidizing the production of legal ones, in the name of Research. And people are making money on both, hand over fist.
All this is too much to handle and it gives me a headache.
I’ll be back after I go take some Tylenol.

Well, I'm not, this blog is. As the name suggests, this place is for short lived bursts of items that cross my cranium that I spit out here in all their glory.

TODAY - Ever wonder if God Exists and if he does, how can we, being the creatures that we are, can even get our minds around the concept? (No, this is not a religious treatise, actually we are talking about Science and Sprituality!) Found this quote from Voltaire that you might want to mull over:
"It is truly extravagant to define God, angels, and minds, and to know precisely why God defined the world, when we do not know why we move our arms at will. Doubt is not a very agreeable state, but certainty is a ridiculous one."
Kinda makes you go... hmmm. Doesn't it?
